We love this adorable educational program for preschool-aged children that can be watched on Netflix in Mandarin with Traditional Chinese subtitles (although they don’t really match up with the dub). Follow Franny 法蘭妮, Bailey 貝里, Kip 奇普, and Lulu 露露 in their daily routines as they learn new words in each episode. Sometimes my older kids sit in for a couple of episodes just because the characters are so cute. I especially love the simple and catchy character development songs that they sing in various episodes such as, “Let’s not fight. 別吵架.”. The first time they sing it is in Season 1, Episode 2 starting at about 6:12. Here are the lyrics:
別吵架 別吵架 這樣不對 我們別吵架 【就像那一次你拿走我的彈挑球 用力的往廚房的牆上丟 然後你推我害我跌倒出錯 我才沒有 你當然有 我沒有 你有 我沒有 你有 我沒有 你們在吵架啊 抱歉露露 抱歉奇普】 別吵架 別吵架 這樣才對 不要吵架 我們別吵架 別吵架
When my kids start to argue back and forth, sometimes we will break out in this song. Maybe it’s due to sheer irritation that it works for the older kids, but hey, it makes them stop.
In each 13-minute episode, the Word Party kids learn 4 theme-specific vocabulary words. To capitalize on cartoon time, I’m trying to reinforce those words by bringing them back up during the day. Sometimes, it’s for my sake as well–I learned a couple of new playground vocabulary words from this myself! Tread lightly though parents, don’t be too rigid about the secret lessons so the scheme doesn’t backfire and the kids resent your hijacking of their cartoon time.
